It is appauling to bear witness to a clear act of environmental vandalism occuring within Mazline Reserve, Norah Head. A large number of trees (Banksias, Paperbarks and Tuckeroos) have been drilled and poisoned with what I would describe as a blatant disregard for the environment and a clear indication of the lengths people will go to in order to gain and/or retain a water view from their properties.
You purchase your property for a price, it does not give you any rights to retain your view, or cut/poison trees to retain or enhance that view. We need these trees, we need our environment, wake up to yourselves and walk/drive to the beach the same as everyone else has to to appreciate the views.
I suspect that this act of vandalism has been carried out or organised by one, some or all residents of 43 through 51 (odd numbers) Soldiers Point Drive. It is clear from the location that the most gain would be from those addresses. I dont think it would be hard to narrow the window down if residents were to allow inspectors to look at the view from their balconies.
I hope the perpetrators are caught and dealt with in a strict and harsh manner. Further I hope the council is able to secure permission to erect some kind of structure or take action to continually block out the view that has been gained as a result of this vandalism until such time as new trees have been planted and reach a height where the structures are no longer required.
I also hope that anyone who has any information that may help the council investigate this matter passes this information on to the council.
I have attached some images of this destruction in the worst kind I have seen in Wyong Shire for a long time.
Below shows the 2 largest banksias in the reserve dead. Poisoned - Disgraceful.
Shows a juvenile banksia which would not even be obstructing a view. Clearly poisoned to prevent blocking views in the future. Criminal.
Shows the size of the trunk of the above tree in relation to the drill hole.
Shows the base of a poisoned Melaleuca. This is such a shame to see this kind of act comitted on our emvironment.
Shows the drill hole close up with all the shavings still at the base of the tree.
